The return of the webpeeps meet-up

April 25th 2024

When asked to define what I do in a few words, I always put webdesign • love it ~ do it ~ teach it” as it sums up my professional activites so nicely. I love my split of work ~ I do love doing design work ~ and I do love teaching it too. And teaching means that I am very lucky to meet a lot of absolutely lovely people ツ Many of them I still keep in touch with, some have changed paths – others have progressed to work in web, within their chosen fields. What a joy!

Memories ツ

This collage of photos captures happy memories, just look at all these happy faces ~ students I taught at Tower Hamlets College many, many years ago as well as students I taught at the University of Greenwich. These photos were taken in class when we had guest speakers visiting, at the Talk Web Design Conference and at our meet-ups. How wonderful to look back at those days of enthusiastic people coming together as one happy web community ツ

We used to get together for exhibitions. For the then-common monthly meet-ups. For web conferences. For summer picnics. We ended up organising a semi-regular meet-ups ~ just to keep in touch.

Getting together again

Over time with busier lives all around, our meet-ups fizzled out, with the pandemic they had to stop altogether. And we’ve not had the chance to bring back our little get-togethers. Now, the time’s come to set some dates and resume. It would be too much of a shame to lose touch and only to see each other at the yearly State of the Browser conference ~ which had become almost like a family reunions for us, the one time we’d see each other every year.

This is a little video, taken by Antony, on our last day of teaching in April 2022 ~ onto more of those happy times ツ

To get the ball rolling again, I’ve now started up a newsletter to keep everyone updated. The plan is to meet up the first wednesday of the month and the newsletter will be sent out one week ahead of time ~ hopefully making it easier to plan ahead.

Fancy joining us? ~ you’re most welcome to subscribe ツ

See you there!

PS: writing this post reminds me of one of the most wonderful thank-you gifts I ever received, from the class of 2011 (on the ‘design for web’ course I ran for 10 years at Tower Hamlets College) ~ thebestwebdesigncourseinlondonbypriscawhorocks.co.uk. Awww… those were the days ツ
