Hope this email finds you well and happy ツ and that you had a great start to the new year. This newsletter is about some events and links to reading and geekery, hope you’ll enjoy ツ
London Web Standards

The next event will be 19 February 2025 @ 19:00 GMT At Greenwich ~ the speakers and talks are announced but yet change. Last time, Dave Letorey had to jump in to give the second talk of the night as PPK was unable to make it.
In any case, it will be an evening of great talks – I hope you can make it ツ
State of the Browser

And only a month later, our unofficial ‘family’ reunion – the State of the Browser conference. This year, it is happening earlier than usual: Saturday 29/03/2025 ツ
This year’s line-up looks fantastic as always. Personally, I particularly look forward to the talk ‘Typographer vs. Accessibility ‘ by Oliver Schöndorfer and ‘Mindful Design for Developers’ by Scott Riley ツ
This year, one of our current students, Niya, will be giving a talk on dark/light themes focusing on accessibility and sustainability. ツ ツ
Also, there’s a new browser in the making too, no doubt another brilliant talk – it will be another brilliant day, I’m sure.
I do hope you can make it! See you there?
A Book Apart Books
As A Book Apart is no longer around, many of the authors (who were all given back their rights) have decided to make their book available again. Many now free to read online ~ if you have read bits of my handbook, you will have seen links, or even embedded versions, to these ~ how wonderful to have this gift of all the free reading ツ

David found a great page where Ryan Trimble is collecting links ~ well worth checking out ツ
more geeky goodies
12 Days of Dev

* CSS text-wrap, by Eric Meyer
* CSS margin-trim and line height units, by Jen Simmons
Thanks for the links, David ツ
Design Prom

A great find by Niya (current student on the MA) ~ Design Prom is an online event with a series of talks, presentations and more, over the 3 days. While there are VIP options and parts that need to be paid for, there’ll be free talks ~ well worth a look ツ
Handbook update

A little request for error reports from me. I’ve just updated my handbook to reshuffle a few things, add a new section and an appendix and to change the header visuals for the chapters. A few major changes meant changes to links ~ I have gone through it all carefully but as with all updates, small errors might persist. I might have overlooked something here and there.
In case you are having a read and come across anything going wrong, a broken link or anything else ~ I’d very much appreciate it if you could let me know ツ
Any suggestions?
As always, I’d welcome your suggestions for the next newsletter. Or maybe you fancy writing a blog post for the design blog, perhaps? I know some of you were thinking about this, you know who you are ~ wink, wink ツ
Our next meet-up
Our next meet-up is next week, Wednesday, 05/02/2025, around 6pm. And sadly, we are now abandoning The Lost Hour. Even though it is still a lovely venue, they decided to have a DJ night on wednesdays now. This means that the volume is so high that conversations are nigh impossible…
This is why from now on we will be back in The Mitre again – our usual hangout ツ
All the very best, Prisca
