Hand mirror

January 24th 2026

Every once in a while there’s a developer who will take time to make things fun ツ

When I saw this toot from Charlie in my Mastodon feed I was curious what kind of app Hand Mirror was ~ and went to check it out. I can’t remember the last time I bought an app on a whim and purely as the sales pitch was so lovely ツ

The little ‘Give it a try’ prompt lead to an instant demo of what this little app does ~ which was lovely. Now, I’m not keen on seeing myself on camera but I do a quick check for lighting before important online calls. And this, and more, is what this app does.

I looked at the app info and just really liked how Rafa explains why he created it and which extras are included. I don’t think I’ll ever want to do a polaroid with my face and a note ~ but I love the idea. The short little demo shots give a clear idea of how the app works. The different icon versions, especially the more retro looking ones are simply wonderful. Overall, I just really liked the vibe of this intro page. Then it crossed my mind that I could use it for doing tutorials too – so I decided to buy it.

There were 2 pricing options – one for as cheap as £5.99 and one for about double. As I like supporting independent developers, I opted to pay more for that reason. What I was not prepared for was how wonderful the setup of this app was going to be. It was just fun, entertaining and easy ツ

The prompts are worded in such a friendly way that it was just a pleasure to setup – little easter eggs like this made me smile ツ

There’s also a lovely little intro to meet the developer – but I won’t give this away here. You’ll have to see this one for yourself ツ

I didn’t realise all the options either – the video can be configured and moved to any position on the screen and it remains on top of all windows, too ~ perfect for doing tutorials. I have only just installed and configured it and have not yet used it much but I already love it! Take a look for yourself: handmirror.app
And check out his Mastodon account for more info on the app ツ

Do have a look at Rafa’s site as well ~ another lovely piece of design and it’s in the same quirky and friendly mood while being a nice showcase of his work ツ

Thank you, Rafa, for making me smile ツ
